Your intention for your voice in 2022 🌱

I was lucky to be able to celebrate Christmas and New Years’ with my family in Vienna. We did lots of fun family things, but also gave ourselves time to rest. I personally managed to go for a 30-minute run almost every day and that makes this year a success already!!

To find an intention for my voice for 2022, I attended an eco-ritual yesterday in a nearby forest (Forêt de Soignes for my Brussels-peeps), facilitated by my friend and co-working space buddy Veronique Massard.

(I am very new to this topic, but I wanted to share it with you, because it might be useful for you too.)

The goal was to harmonize the 4 elements and seasons and set an intention for the new year. Before we got started we were to take a walk and look at elements in nature that somehow symbolize what we want to give more energy to this year.

I was very drawn to a little creek flowing right next to us. I loved the sound of the water splashing and flowing and it reminded me of the fact that our voice also needs to flow in order to sound strong.

This last year I spent a lot of time acknowledging and releasing mental and emotional blocks that kept me from sharing my voice. It showed me that we cannot force ourselves to speak or sing.

When something inside is blocking us, we cannot power through and pretend - even with the best vocal technique(!).

If we want to use our authentic voice, we need to recognize what is blocking it, remove that block, so our voice can flow again.

Just as in nature water is determined to flow, our voice is determined to flow, too.

So my intention for 2022 is to let my voice flow and not let obstacles (like doubts and fears) stop me from sharing valuable information with you.

You can do a variation of this ritual by yourself, if you feel inclined to set an intention for your voice this year.

Do the following:

  • Take a mindful walk in nature

  • Concentrate on your breath

  • Become present to what your see, hear, smell, feel

  • Allow something to call your attention

  • Reflect on why this particular sound, tree, branch, grass or bird is calling out to you

  • What do you need more of? What do you need less of?
